It's gone from being 11 months away, to just short of 8 weeks, very quickly! Now I'll be out house sitting for the next month, and after that it'll only be 3 and a half weeks.
Made an appointment to ask the doctor about vaccinations, wasn't sure we'd really need any as we're not going anywhere particularly exotic. I ended up getting Hep A, Hep B and an MMR booster (unrelated to travelling but given to me anyway). I go again in a few weeks for Hep A and B booster, and Typhoid, then again just before we go for another Hep A and B booster. And I have to remember to make an appointment for June next year for a final Hep A and B booster!
Everything is pretty much done now, all pre-booked/paid for things are done, finally. I've been creating a more detailed itinerary of what things to do on what days, by checking out where everything is on Google Maps from where we'll be staying, so I can group things together to make the most of our time in each place, as it's all so precisely scheduled. I have scheduled in some time to rest too.. Google Maps are pretty much all printed. Definitely going to get very lost on many occasions. Doing this also made me realise a bit of an error I made in New Zealand South Island, I didn't account for the lack of connecting roads across the national parks, so we're not staying the night at Mount Cook, it's only a couple of hours away from where we're staying prior to that anyway (Wanaka), so we'll just head up for a day. From Wanaka we'll then move onto The Fox Glacier and stay there instead for a night.
All that's left to do is, print off all our confirmation emails, photocopy important documents for parents, notify our banks, get traveller's cheques, book our buses for Australia in advance, a few other little things... And check in online!!!
I'm not entirely sure what to do about my phone abroad, whether to get an international sim card, keep my phone as normal, or try not to use it at all and get pay phone cards for each country we're in. That's the last thing I really need to look into.
